Electric Solenoid Valves vs. Indexing Valve Irrigation Systems ~ Why That Matters!
While there are times when an indexing system is warranted,
Flamingo Outdoor Systems typically advocates replacing indexing irrigation systems with individual electric valves.
Electric valves give you more control of your watering requirements throughout your yard lawn and garden with more watering flexibility you don’t get with an indexing system.
This is important when installing new landscaping. It is necessary to have control over the individual valves to water new landscapes daily while keeping the rest of the lawn on a normal two-day-a-week cycle. This prevents wasteful runoff from over-watering the rest of the property. It also prevents costly water bills!
Indexing valves on a well, lake, or reclaimed water typically malfunction which causes the entire system to fail.
Additional zones cannot be added to indexing systems.
Systems Without Rain Sensors
Rain Sensors are required on all systems as of July 1, 2009 (Florida stature 373.62.) Rain sensors, when installed correctly, save on water costs and wasteful unnecessary watering. Wireless rain sensors are available to replace the old wired sensors.
Drip Irrigation
Drip irrigation is the most water-efficient way to irrigate many different plantings. The reason is the slow application rate of 1 gallon per hour (gph) which focuses the water on the soil and roots and avoids costly runoff.
Back Flow Preventers
We install all back flow preventers to local code and manufacturers’ specs.
Back flow preventers are required on all irrigation systems connected to the city or county’s metered water. In some locations, a back flow is required on well and pump systems.
Over Watering & Under Watering
This occurs in the majority of the systems we see. This is when there is a mix of pattern spray nozzles and rotating heads (rotors) in the same zone. Sprays typically have a duration of 20 minutes of watering time while the rotor’s requirements are usually 40 minutes.
We put the balance back into your irrigation system by eliminating wasted water. This is done by placing the same efficient heads and nozzles precisely where they need to go.

Whether your irrigation system is water demand or pressure demand from a water source such as well, lake, or city water, Flamingo will troubleshoot and diagnose your irrigation system challenges.
We diagnose pump issues too.
Loss of prime? It could be the pump is sucking air at the intake due to loosened fittings, improper installation, defective check valve, or blockage inline somewhere. Whatever the case, we are capable of detecting the issue and providing a solution.
